KÜRTEN, GERMANY-The composer Karlheinz Stockhausen was awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Music Honoris Causa by the Queen’s University in Belfast, Ireland, during a formal ceremony on April 22nd 2004.

This honorary doctorate is the second one he has received after the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa was conferred upon him in 1996 by the philosophy faculty of the Freie Universität Berlin.

In 1971, Stockhausen was appointed Professor for Composition with life tenure at the College for Music in Cologne.
