KÜRTEN, GERMANY-The Royal Belgian Academy of Science, Literature and Fine Arts (ACADEMIE ROYALE des sciences, des lettres & des beaux-arts) has announced that their music section “has elected Karlheinz Stockhausen to become a member as a token of high esteem for his work”.

With this, Stockhausen is now a member of 12 academies of arts and sciences:

1968 Free Academy of the Arts, Hamburg;

1970 Royal Swedish Academy;

1973 Academy of the Arts, Berlin;

1977 Philharmonic Academy of Rome;

1979 American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters;

1980 European Academy of Science, Arts and Letters;

1987 Royal Academy of Music, London;

1989 American Academy of Arts and Sciences;

1991 Royal Irish Academy of Music;

1991 Accademia Nazionale di Santa Caecilia, Rome;

1996 Free Academy of the Arts Leipzig;

2004 ACADEMIE ROYALE des sciences, des lettres & des beaux-arts (Belgium).
