STOCKHAUSEN ON THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC of SIRIUS
"The electronic music of SIRIUS was realised by me in the Studio for Electronic Music of the West German Radio
in Cologne from July 1975 to March 1977. It was combined with four soloists: trumpet, soprano, bass clarinet, bass.
Thus, its original title is: SIRIUS Electronic Music with Trumpet, Soprano, Bass clarinet, Bass.
All performances took place with soloists.
Since the beginning, there have repeatedly been requests for the electronic music without soloists.
Although 8-track tapes for study and performances may be rented or purchased,
now – in 2004 – the four stereo versions are being released on CDs.
They serve as study material and for rehearsals, and also for practicing the editions for soloists:
ARIES for trumpet and electronic music
LIBRA for bass clarinet and electronic music
CAPRICORN for bass and electronic music.
The duration of SIRIUS is 96 minutes without interruption.
Since this surpasses the maximum duration currently recordable on CDs,
each of the 4 versions must be interrupted once and divided into 2 CDs, resulting in 4 x 2 CDs."
