Kathinka Pasveer (Flute)

Biography

Kathinka Pasveer was born in Zaandam Holland.

She studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Frans Vester and was presented with the Nicolai Prize when she received her performer's diploma in 1983. During her final year of studies she was the principal flutist of the Gewestelijk Orchestra in Holland. Since December 1982 she has worked with Stockhausen.

KATHINKA'S CHANT as LUCIFER's REQUIEM for flute and 6 percussionists (2nd scene of SATURDAY from LIGHT) was composed for her by Stockhausen in February and March of 1983, and in October 1983 she performed its world première during the Donaueschinger Musiktage.

Since then, Stockhausen has composed many works especially for Kathinka. She performed the world première of all of them, and many of them are dedicated to her.

She performed as soloist in the world premières of SATURDAY from LIGHT (La Scala 1984), MONDAY from LIGHT (La Scala 1988), TUESDAY from LIGHT (Leipzig Opera 1993), and FRIDAY from LIGHT (Leipzig Opera 1996).

Master class

I will teach all Stockhausen compositions for flute. To participate in the course for flute, it is necessary, that the flutists have prepared one or more works thoroughly (most of the works have to be played from memory). If a participant is well enough prepared, it might be possible to perform a work in one of the participants concerts. In that case, do not forget to bring a special costume! I am also willing to prepare larger works (e.g. KATHINKAs GESANG) before the courses, during the year. Please contact me ahead of time.

But also for flutists, who do not want to participate actively, it might be interesting to assist at the courses because different works will be studied and played and one can also learn a lot by listening!
The flutists interested in coming may contact me directly through the Stockhausen-Verlag (+49-2268-1813) with all questions.

In the mornings of the Courses, I will also give a course for participants who have studied the part for the dancer-mime in INORI or VISION.
