About CD 81
A recording made in 1975 by the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by me was released on CD 2 by the Stockhausen-Verlag.
The score published in 1994 by Universal Edition Vienna includes all of the improvements which I had made until that time. On June 8th 2004, Péter Eötvös conducted PUNKTE twice in succession with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne at the Philharmonic Hall in Cologne. I participated in the tutti rehearsals, performances and recording, and was responsible for the sound projection of the amplified instruments.
I was not present during the subsequent mix-down.
The new recording conducted by Péter Eötvös is so important to me because the corrections which I had made until 1994 were taken into account in this performance. That is why I have decided to release it on CD 81.
The text spoken by me at the beginning of this CD is an abridgement of the introduction to PUNKTE for Orchestra which I gave on June 8th 2004 between the two performances of the work by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne at the Philharmonic Hall in Cologne. I spoke extemporaneously without notes. My words were recorded.
A translation into English by Suzanne Stephens was spoken by me on August 16th 2005 at Sound Studio N in Cologne. It follows the recording of PUNKTE.
