Summary of the 10th Stockhausen Courses for Music in Kuerten 2007

After 10 concerts, the Stockhausen Courses Kuerten came to an end on a happy note:
circa 400 listeners attended each concert (including 2 world premières and a German first performance),
9 x 9 daily master classes for circa 140 participants from 32 countries
(44 composers, 42 interpreters, 16 musicologists, circa 40 auditors).
Among the 39 Stockhausen works which were performed, there were 6 compositions of his Electronic Music.
Following the final concert on July 15th, Stockhausen awarded prizes to the following interpreters:
Karin de Fleyt from Belgium, flute (class of Kathinka Pasveer), for her performance of
KATHINKAs GESANG for flute and electronic music;
Michele Marelli from Italy, clarinet (class of Suzanne Stephens), for his performance of
HARLEKIN for clarinet;
Laura Alvarez from Argentinia, piano (class of Benjamin Kobler and Frank Gutschmidt), for her performance of KLAVIERSTÜCK XII;
Julia Mihály from Germany, soprano (class of Hubert Mayer), for her performance of
TIERKREIS Version 2003 for Tenor or Soprano and Synthesizer;
Veronika Kiss from Hungary, bassoon (class of Suzanne Stephens), for her performance of
IN FREUNDSCHAFT for bassoon;
Takashi Matsudaira from Japan, baritone (class of Suzanne Stephens), for his performance of
SPIRAL for a soloist and short-wave radio;
Vanessa Benelli Mosell from Italy, piano (class of Benjamin Kobler and Frank Gutschmidt), for her performance of KLAVIERSTÜCKE V and VII;
Marie-Hélène Rondeau from Canada, flute (class of Kathinka Pasveer), for her performance of
ZUNGENSPITZENTANZ for piccolo flute;
Katrin Plümer from Germany, flute (class of Kathinka Pasveer), for her performance of
Xi for flute;
François Duval from Canada, basset-horn (class of Suzanne Stephens), for his performance of
EVAs SPIEGEL for basset-horn and alto flute;
Chloé L'Abbé from Canada, alto flute (class of Kathinka Pasveer), for her performances of
EVAs SPIEGEL and SUSANIs ECHO for alto flute;
Karen Heath from Australia, clarinet (class of Suzanne Stephens), for her performance of
DER KLEINE HARLEKIN for clarinet;
Rumi Sota-Klemm from Japan, basset-horn (class of Suzanne Stephens) for her performance of
ELUFA for basset-horn and flute with
Kazuko Ihara from Japan, flute (class of Kathinka Pasveer).
In his final address, Stockhausen repeated the motto of this year's courses: Learning out of enthusiasm, and said that he was very happy about the wonderfully cheerful, harmonious atmosphere during the courses. He also said that the fact that people from 32 countries enthusiastically study his work was a good counter-balance for today's world.
The next courses will take place from July 12th-20th 2008 (9 concerts and master classes).
