Richard Toop (b.1945, Chichester, England) was Stockhausens Teaching Assistant at the Cologne Musikhochschule in 1973-74; since 1975, he has lived in Sydney, Australia. He has published many articles on Stockhausens work (in Perspectives of New Music, The Musical Quarterly, Interface, Neue Zeitschrift für Musik etc.), wrote the Stockhausen entry in the Revised New Grove, and translated Vol. 2 of Stockhausens Texte, as well as Michael Kurtzs book on the composer. He is Reader in Musicology at the Sydney Conservatorium (University of Sydney).
